简体中文 | Bahasa IndonesiaHello,
Our records indicate that your organisation holds HSBC UK accounts enabled with the File Upload service.
Starting 1 March 2025, we’re introducing Purpose of Payment requirements for cross-border payment files debiting HSBC UK accounts that are submitted using Instruction Level Authorisation (ILA) to help reduce delays and rejections in payment processing.
What this means for you
Currently, Purpose of Payment details are required in HSBCnet payment screens when creating cross-border Priority Payment instructions to beneficiaries in locations where Purpose of Payment details are required by local regulation.
Starting 1 March 2025, this requirement will be extended to payment files with instructions debiting HSBC UK accounts and uploaded using ILA via HSBCnet's File Upload service, HSBC Connect, and SwiftNet to beneficiaries in the below locations:
- Chile
- Egypt
- India
- Indonesia
- Malaysia
- Maldives
- Philippines
- Qatar
- Saudi Arabia
- South Korea
- Thailand
- United Arab Emirates
Instructions submitted via ILA debiting HSBC UK accounts to the above beneficiary locations that do not contain valid Purpose of Payment details will be rejected.
What you need to do
Starting 1 March 2025, you will be required to include a valid Purpose of Payment code in Priority Payment instructions debiting HSBC UK accounts that are uploaded using ILA via HSBCnet's File Upload service, HSBC Connect, and SwiftNet to beneficiaries in locations where Purpose of Payment details are required by local regulation.
We’ve updated HSBC’s File Format Specification guides (formerly Message Implementation Guides or MIGs) to include the Purpose of Payment requirements for payments debiting UK accounts.
Updated guides are available in the HSBCnet User Guides portal for the following file formats:
- XMLv2
- XMLv3
- Dynamic CSV
- MT103
For information on how to include Purpose of Payment details in the below file formats, contact your Client Services representative:
