Important changes coming in June
Several new enhancements will be introduced to HSBCnet over the weekend of 13/14 June delivering more convenience to your banking experience. Changes include revised Inter-Account Payment screens, new look and feel for Customer Alerting, as well as Trade Service and HSBCnet Mobile enhancements.
Be sure to read on to see how these changes will enrich your HSBCnet experience.
Customers with HSBC accounts in France: account number format moving to IBAN
Effective 18 July 2015, the account number format for HSBC accounts in France on HSBCnet will move to International Bank Account Number (IBAN) format, as part of implementation of the SEPA standard. This change will facilitate more streamlined reconciliation and will be reflected in Account Information as well as all payment screens.
Example: Current HSBCnet format IBAN format (after 18 July) 00120003456EUR FR9870065000430012000345621Important information for customers downloading statements from HSBCnet:
Information in your bank statements could change due to this enhancement, and as a result your ERP systems or automated account reconciliation programs may be impacted. If you download statements from HSBCnet for software (ERP) integration, please review the following to ensure on-going operation of your automated reconciliation processes:
- Check that your ERP system supports IBAN format.
- After 18 July: update your ERP system setup, if needed.
From 18 July, statements in MT940 will be updated to quote the IBAN account number, in the account number field (tag 25). Please note that there will be no impact for CFONB statements.
Customers using File Upload service
After the effective date, customers using the File Upload service can input either the existing 11-digit HSBCnet account number format or the new IBAN account number format in their payment files.
IBAN account numbers are already available in HSBCnet.
To view, log onto HSBCnet and select “Account Information” from under the “Accounts” tab located in the top main menu bar. When a France domiciled account is selected (either directly or via the Quick filter) it’s unique “Account Information” page will appear and include the IBAN.
For further assistance with this change, please contact your local HSBCnet Support Centre.
Customers with accounts in Qatar: SWIFT BIC for ACH Credit payments
Customers with accounts in Qatar currently provide CBID codes (HSBC specific bank codes) in the “Bank Code” entry field when creating ACH Credit payments. Effective 14 June 2015, HSBCnet ACH Credit payment instruction screens will be enhanced to support the industry standard SWIFT Bank Identification Codes (BIC) for payments from accounts in Qatar.
After the effective date, HSBCnet ACH Credit screens will include a new drop down list in the “Beneficiary Bank Identifier” entry field where you can select either the Bank Code or the SWIFT BIC. Please note that the Bank Code (CBID) will be the default option in the field at this time.
To input the SWIFT BIC for your payment, please select SWIFT BIC in the “Beneficiary Bank Identifier” field. You will now be able to provide the SWIFT BIC by manually entering the code in the text box or by searching for a valid SWIFT BIC using the search function.
After 14 June, when attempting to create a payment instruction using general templates, you may change “Beneficiary Bank Identifier” to SWIFT BIC to include a valid SWIFT BIC for the payment instruction. You will not be able to edit the “Beneficiary Bank Identifier” field in restricted templates. You will need to create a new restricted template if you wish to provide a valid SWIFT BIC for the payment instruction.
The table below outlines the SWIFT BIC information for Payment Files uploaded via HSBCnet File Upload. If you provide an invalid SWIFT BIC, the payment file will be rejected and will need to be re-submitted.

We encourage you to start providing the SWIFT BIC for ACH Credit payments on Qatar accounts. We will eventually end support for CBID codes for ACH Credit payments. In order to ensure you have time to make any necessary changes on your end, you will receive notification prior to the removal of CBID codes from HSBCnet.
For additional information on the Qatar ACH Credit enhancement, please contact your local HSBCnet Support Centre or your HSBC representative.
Customers submitting MEABASIC payment files via HSBCnet File Upload service
Please be reminded that to help support successful processing of payment files, you should select the appropriate "File Type" when uploading a MEABASIC payment file via the HSBCnet File Upload service. For example, if your payment file has Priority Payments, the "File Type" must be "Priority Payments" and not "ACH Credits". Going forward, any such payment files uploaded with the incorrect "File Type" will be rejected on HSBCnet.
Security Tip: Instructed to change a supplier's bank account details? Make sure to take a closer look
It’s a good idea to be wary of any requests from your beneficiaries (via e-mail, phone or otherwise) to change their banking details. The request may be an attempt to divert payment funds to a fraudulent account.
Fraudulent requests may be disguised as originating from a supplier and ask that you change the supplier’s bank account information. As a precaution, always take the extra step of checking directly with your supplier through an alternative communication method outside of the e-mail environment, such as a phone call to a trusted source in their company, to confirm that the change request is genuine.
In some cases, the fraudulent request to change supplier information or make a payment to an unfamiliar account supposedly comes from your organisation’s CEO, President or other administrator. When reviewing any type of payment instructions from an internal source, ensure the request uses your organisation’s official channels and follows authorised processes and procedures.
