Stay vigilant against online banking fraud with these internet banking safety tips
中文版
Dear HSBCnet User,
In order to help our customers detect and prevent Internet banking fraud attacks, the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited would like to remind you of the following tips for secure use of HSBCnet.
- HSBC will not display your personal information in emails or ask you to provide any personal information including username, password and security code by replying emails.
- Always access HSBCnet by keying in the website address at the address bar of your browser, or bookmark the website and use that function to access HSBCnet.
- Never access internet banking through hyperlinks embedded in emails or other untrustworthy sources.
- Ensure that you are connected to a valid HSBC domain and do not rely solely on the look and feel of the website when using HSBCnet services. You should not enter your user name, password and/or security code if you find the website suspicious.
- If unusual screens pop up and/or your computer’s response is unusually slow, you are advised to call the local HSBCnet supporting hotline immediately.
- Install anti-virus software and update it with the latest virus definition files.
- Review transaction records regularly and report to us if you find any suspicious transactions.
- Please read the Security Alerts and Tips published at our HSBCnet logon page for any security tips on Internet banking.
Customers logging on to HSBCnet using a Security Device should also pay attention to the following tips:
- The green button on your security device is used to generate security codes for HSBCnet logon only. The yellow button is mainly for transferring funds to non-registered third party accounts and we will never ask you to use the yellow button during your logon process.
- You should follow the logon instructions as indicated on our authentic HSBCnet logon screen
Step 1: Switch on your Security Device by holding the Green circle button for two seconds.
Step 2: Input your PIN number.
Step 3: Press the Green circle button again to generate a security code.
Step 4: Enter the security code the Security Device generates in the space provided.
- You should also take care to check the identity of beneficiaries before effecting payments to third party accounts.
Whenever you are doubtful about your HSBCnet activities, you should immediately call the HSBCnet customer support hotline at +852 2748 8288.
Sincerely,
Your HSBCnet team
