US account holders: Real-Time Payments coming soon

Last updated: 27 May 2019

Starting in July 2019, you’ll be able to receive Real-Time Payments that credit your accounts in the US.

What are Real-Time Payments?

The new Real-Time Payments USD domestic settlement network has launched in the United States.* Real-Time Payments are:

  • processed in real time and update your account balances 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year (24/7/365).
  • sent from participating banks for payments valued at USD25,000 or less.

Since they’re processed immediately, 24/7/365, payments received as Real-Time Payments are final and irrevocable. The sender of the payment will be notified by their Real-Time Payments participating bank that the payment was delivered successfully, and the funds cannot be automatically recalled/debited from your account.

What does this mean for me?

USD Real-Time Payments processing will be available on HSBCnet in three phases:

Phase 1 (July 2019):

  • Phase 1 allows you to receive Real-Time Payments in your US accounts.

Phases 2/3 coming soon:

  • Phase 2 introduces the ability to send Real-Time Payments using HSBCnet payment screens and File Upload service.
  • With Phase 3, you’ll be able to send and receive other messages available on the Real-Time Payments network, like Request for Payments (RFP) and Request for Information (RFI), using HSBCnet payment screens and files.

We’ll be sharing more information soon about sending Real-Time Payments, RFP, and RFI.

What’s changing on HSBCnet?
