Thailand account holders: upcoming changes to Purpose of Payment codes effective 6 December 2020

Last updated: 23 November 2020

Over the weekend of 6 December 2020, we’ll be updating the HSBCnet Purpose of Payment code list for payments from accounts in Thailand. In accordance with local regulations, we’ll be removing some codes that are being discontinued by the Bank of Thailand.

What do I need to do?

Starting 6 December 2020, you may find that Purpose of Payment codes you’ve been using for your Priority Payment instructions will have been updated and are no longer available in HSBCnet.

Review the upcoming changes to Purpose of Payment codes effective 6 December 2020 >

We recommend that you (or another user in your organisation with the correct payment permissions) review your HSBCnet payment instructions as follows:

  • Payment templates:
  • To avoid delays or rejections, we recommend that you review and update your payment templates as soon as possible from 6 December 2020 to make sure that the Purpose of Payment codes you’re using are up-to-date. As of 6 December 2020, if your templates include deleted codes, your payment won’t be processed until you update the code. Use the ‘View all’ feature in the ‘Reason for payment’ field on HSBCnet payment screens to find the updated list of codes.
  • Payments created on-screen in HSBCnet:
  • From 6 December 2020, if you submit a payment with a Purpose of Payment code that is not recognised, HSBCnet will show a warning message. If you see this message, you’ll need to update your payment instructions to include an updated code. You can also use the ‘View all’ feature in the ‘Reason for payment’ field on HSBCnet payment screens to find a valid Purpose of Payment code.
  • Forward-dated payments and Standing instructions:
  • If you have any Forward-dated payments, or Standing instructions, the payments will be submitted with the payment information that has already been entered. We recommend that you review these payment instructions as soon as possible from 6 December 2020 to make sure that they include up-to-date Purpose of Payment codes to avoid possible delays or cancellations.

Important note: submitting a payment with invalid or incorrect payment details (including Purpose of Payment codes) can result in payment processing delays or cancellations.
