Thailand account holders: upcoming changes to Purpose of Payment codes effective 8 September 2019

Last updated: 3 July 2019

Over the weekend of 7/8 September 2019, we’ll be updating the HSBCnet Purpose of Payment code list for payments from accounts in Thailand. In compliance with local regulations, we’ll be removing some codes that are being discontinued by the Bank of Thailand.

What do I need to do?

Starting from 8 September, you may find that Purpose of Payment codes you’ve been using for your Priority Payment instructions have been updated and are no longer available in HSBCnet.

Review the updated list of Purpose of Payment codes (effective 8 September 2019) >

We recommend that you (or another user in your organisation with the correct payment permissions) review your HSBCnet payment instructions as follows:

  • Payment templates:
To avoid delays or rejections, we recommend that you review and update your payment templates before 8 September to make sure that the Purpose of Payment codes you’re using are up-to-date. As of 8 September, if your templates include deleted codes, your payment won’t be processed until you update the code. Use the ‘View all’ feature in the ‘Reason for payment’ field on HSBCnet payment screens to find the updated list of codes.

Reminder: when you update a restricted template, you will need to have another user approve the changes in the Authorisation Summary service before the template can be used to make payments.

  • Payments created on-screen in HSBCnet:
From 8 September, if you submit a payment with a Purpose of Payment code that is not recognised, HSBCnet will send you an error or warning message. If you see such a message, you’ll need to update your payment instructions to include an updated code. The best way to make sure you’re using an accurate Purpose of Payment code is to use the ‘View all’ feature in the ‘Reason for payment’ field on HSBCnet payment screens.

  • Forward-dated payments and Standing Instructions:
If you have any Forward-dated payments, or Standing Instructions, the payments will be submitted with the payment information that has already been entered. We recommend that you review these payment instructions before 8 September to make sure that they include up-to-date Purpose of Payment codes to avoid possible delays or cancellations.

Important note: submitting a payment with invalid or incorrect payment details (including Purpose of Payment codes) can result in payment processing delays or cancellations.
