For customers with accounts in Vietnam: new mandatory payment fields effective 18 June 2018

From 18 June, the following fields will become mandatory for payments from Vietnamese accounts made on-screen in HSBCnet and via File Upload:

Use these fields to provide a clear description about the purpose of the payment. Sample descriptions are provided below.

Inter-account Transfer
Transfer details / Additional details
ACH Credit

2nd party reference

The character limit for this field will be increased from 12 characters to 35 characters.
Below are some examples of purpose of payment descriptions you can use in the above fields:
Payment for raw materials
Payment for imported goods and services Salary/Allowances/Bonus for month xxx
Short/Long-term Loan – Principal/interest (amount)
Payment for contract/invoice number xxx Dividend for year xxx
Capital injection for xxx
Pay for shares  

Do I need to do anything before 18 June?

  • General and Restricted templates:
    We recommend that you review your General and Restricted templates before 18 June and make sure the mandatory fields are completed. Any payment templates that don’t include the mandatory fields after 18 June will be rejected.

  • Payment files (File Upload):
    We recommend that you review your payment files ahead of 18 June and update as needed. As of 18 June, payment files that don’t include the mandatory information will be rejected.
