Security guidelines and best practices for Smart Card Users

Dear HSBCnet User,

As part of our efforts to provide a secure online banking environment and to ensure you are kept informed with regards to security measures, we wish to draw your attention to security requirements and best practices for using your Smart Card with HSBCnet.

Adherence to the following guidelines can help ensure your information remains safe and secure:

  • Insert your Smart Card into the reader only when logging in to HSBCnet;
  • Always remove your Smart Card from the reader when not using HSBCnet;
  • Never leave your Smart Card unattended and always keep it securely locked up while not in use;
  • Only leave your HSBCnet session open while it is in use. If you need to leave your computer, log out of your HSBCnet session, remove your card and log back in on your return;
  • When finished with your HSBCnet session, ensure you log off safely and securely by selecting the “Logoff” button within HSBCnet (do not simply close the browser window);
  • If unexpected screens pop up and/or your computer's response is unusually slow, you are advised to call your local HSBCnet Support Centre immediately;

We strongly encourage you to download Webroot SecureAnywhere to ensure greater protection against ever more sophisticated malware attacks.

Webroot SecureAnywhere software is available at no charge to you as an HSBCnet customer. It is highly recommend that you download and install this software by logging on to HSBCnet and selecting the Webroot information in the Service Updates section of your HSBCnet landing page.

If you have any questions about the recommendations within this email, please contact your HSBC representative.

Sincerely,

Your HSBCnet team
