Security enhancements to payment and receivables advising

As part of our continuous drive to improve information security on e-mail communication and protect sensitive business information from unintended users, HSBC will introduce new security measures to its Payment and Receivables E-mail Advising service from 15 September 2014.

Effective 15 September 2014, all payment and receivables advices via e-mail will be sent out with sensitive data partially masked, such as account number, remitting account name, and beneficiary account name.*  All other information will not be affected.

Example

Current Full Name Masked Name

John Andrew Smith

J**n An***w Sm**h

ADVENT HONG KONG TRADING CO. LIMITED

AD***T H**G K**G TRA***G C*. LIM***D

Please note:  if Forced Transport Layer Security (TLS) is in place for the recipient, the recipient will receive e-mail advice via Forced TLS as per their current set up and there will be no change.

If you do not have Forced TLS and would prefer to obtain the full version of your advices without masking, it is possible to switch to receive encrypted advices via the Voltage SecureMail service.  A recipient defined password will be required for decrypting this type of advice and sensitive data (apart from account number) will be displayed in full. Please refer to the following instructions to set up this option:

For additional information about this change, SecureMail and Forced TLS, please review the enclosed Frequently Asked Questions or speak with your HSBC representative.

* Due to Korea’s regulatory requirements, all Payments and Receivables advices originated from transactions related accounts residing in Korea will be delivered via encrypted mail with sensitive information masked.

** With respect to Korea’s regulatory requirements, the option to switch to other secured mail option will not be available for any accounts residing in Korea.
