Information for customers with Lithuanian accounts and payment templates regarding Lithuania's conversion to Euro as legal tender

Dear HSBCnet User,

You have been identified as either having Lithuania currency accounts attached to your organisation’s HSBCnet profile or Lithuanian currency payment templates. For this reason, we wish to inform you that effective 1 January, 2015, Lithuania will convert to using the Euro (EUR) as legal tender and the Lithuanian Litas (LTL) will no longer be accepted or accessible through HSBCnet

Required action for customers with Lithuanian currency accounts:
In preparation for this change, customers with LTL accounts will need to have them closed and/or funds transferred to an existing or new EUR account. A fixed exchange rate of EUR 1 = LTL 3.45280 has been established to facilitate settling any outstanding credits or debits. Please use this exchange rate to complete the following actions as appropriate for your situation:

a) Open a new EUR account and close your current LTL account;
b) Simply close your LTL account if an existing EUR account is available for future use or if a replacement account is not required.

Before closing your LTL account:
  • LTL accounts with a credit balance: please transfer the credit to an existing EUR account using the above fixed exchange rate;
  • LTL accounts with outstanding debit balance: please repay the outstanding balance using the above fixed exchange rate;
  • For LTL accounts zero balance: no further action is required before closing.
Required action for customers with Lithuanian currency payment templates:
As of 1 January, 2015 there will be no access to conduct transactions through LTL accounts or to use LTL currency on transactions through non-LTL accounts on HSBCnet. As such, customers with both General and Restricted LTL payment templates must modify the template by 1 January, 2015. This applies when the payment template pre-selected account is an LTL account; the currency of the payment template is LTL but the pre-selected account is not an LTL account; or when there is no pre-selected account for an LTL transaction.
  • Where the pre-selected account is an LTL account
    Payment templates for LTL accounts must be amended to transact through existing or new EUR accounts.
  • Where there is no pre-selected account or the account is a non-LTL account
    Where a template uses LTL currency without a pre-selected account or uses a non-LTL account only the currency of the payment template needs to be amended.

For more detailed information please view our Frequently Asked Questions.

If you need additional support with regards to this change or require assistance with the actions outlined above, please contact your HSBC representative.

Sincerely,

Your HSBCnet Team
