Important reminder for customers with accounts in Qatar: IBAN required for payments to/from accounts in Qatar effective 1 January 2014

Dear HSBCnet User,

From 1 January, 2014, all banks in Qatar are required to accept and process payment instructions only with a valid International Bank Account Number (IBAN). In compliance with Qatar Central Bank, HSBC Bank Middle East Limited in Qatar (HSBC) has successfully generated the IBAN for all your HSBC accounts in Qatar.

You can generate your IBAN by visiting www.hsbc.com.qa, selecting the ‘Generate IBAN’ link towards the bottom right corner of the page and inputting your 12 digit HSBC account number. Please note that this generator is only applicable for HSBC account numbers in Qatar.

Please use the Qatar IBAN for all instructions for value date on or after 1 January 2014, when:

  • Making domestic payments to any customer account in Qatar.
    This includes making salary payments to your employees or vendor payments. Please reach out to your beneficiaries to obtain their IBAN.
  • Receiving payments to your HSBC Qatar account, from any party based in Qatar or outside Qatar.
    Please ensure that the IBAN for your account is communicated to all parties from whom you are expecting a remittance to your account. If you issue invoices, it is recommended to quote the IBAN on the invoices.

In case the IBAN is not used, the processing of both inward and outward payments to/from your account is likely to be delayed or even rejected and you may incur additional processing charges.

Please note, all HSBC payment / instruction submission channels have been enhanced to accept IBAN.
