Frequently Asked Questions: Hong Kong Faster Payment System (FPS) Alias Management

1. What information can I use as the alias for my bank account?

You can register your email address or mobile number, or generate a FPS ID via the HSBCnet Alias Management service, as the alias for your organisation’s bank accounts.

2.
Which account(s) can I register an alias for on HSBCnet?

You can register an alias for your organisation’s HKD and RMB currency accounts that are domiciled with HSBC or Hang Seng Bank in Hong Kong.

3. Can I register my email address or mobile number as an alias for multiple bank accounts?

If you have registered your email address or mobile number as an alias for one of your HSBC or Hang Seng Bank accounts, the same email address or mobile number cannot be registered as an alias for another HSBC or Hang Seng Bank account.

If your organisation has registered an email address or mobile number as an alias for an account held at another bank or FPS participant, you can still register the email address or mobile number as an alias for your HSBC or Hang Seng Bank account.

4.
If I register my email address or mobile number as an alias for multiple accounts at different banks or FPS participants, how can I control which account will receive funds when my payor transfers funds to the alias?

The funds will be received in the account of the bank or FPS participant that your organisation has nominated as the preferred account for the alias, unless the payor has instructed otherwise.

When you register your email address or mobile number as an alias for your HSBC or Hang Seng Bank account on HSBCnet, you can choose to make HSBC or Hang Seng Bank the preferred bank for the alias. The option will remain available after your alias registration on HSBCnet.

5.
How will the HKD/RMB funds be credited when my payor transfers funds to the alias that’s linked to my Business Integrated Accounts?

The HKD or RMB funds will be credited to your Business Integrated Accounts’ HKD Savings or RMB Savings, respectively.

6. Can I register multiple email addresses or mobile numbers as aliases for each of my bank accounts?

Yes, you can register up to 20 email addresses or mobile numbers as aliases for one bank account.

7. What is a Faster Payment System (FPS) generated ID?

A FPS-generated ID is a random 7-digit number that is assigned by the Faster Payment System upon registration through the HSBCnet Alias Management service. A FPS ID can be registered as an alias for only one bank account, and vice versa.

Unless you have the need to address different natures of payment, please don't register multiple FPS IDs for different accounts under the same corporate name to avoid any confusion to the payors.

8.
What is the “set this FPS ID to receive merchant payment” option available in the HSBCnet Alias Management service when I register for a FPS ID?

This option is to be used when you sign up to HSBC Business Collect service. For more information, please contact your HSBC representative.
