User tip: improve payment processing by including valid Purpose of Payment codesLast updated: 13 October 2016 Including all relevant information in your payment instructions helps prevent processing delays and/or charges associated with incorrect payment details. Make sure that you provide an appropriate Purpose of Payment code for payments to countries where this is mandatory. Failure to do so may lead to rejections, delays and/or additional charges. The Purpose of Payment field is the quickest way to include accurate codes in your payment instructions. Where available, we recommend that you use the Purpose of Payment field to input the code. Purpose codes can be selected from a drop-down list, ensuring that your payment instructions include valid codes. You can also review detailed information on available codes via the ‘Code details’ button. Using the Purpose of Payment field, instead of other reference fields, helps reduce the chance that your payments will be delayed or rejected.
