Stay protected when banking on the go

Last updated: 2 May 2019

With HSBCnet and HSBCnet Mobile, you have the convenience of conducting your banking at any time and from anywhere you have an internet connection. It’s important to safeguard your online banking activity whenever you’re banking on the go.

While HSBCnet uses multiple layers of protection to enhance your security, here are a few reminders for safeguarding your online banking activity whether you are accessing HSBCnet Mobile on the go, connecting to HSBCnet from your laptop via a new internet connection, or using a trusted stationary computer terminal.

  • Don’t store your HSBCnet user or profile details on your mobile device.

  • Make sure that your mobile device is updated with the latest manufacturer updates and that you’re also using updated anti-virus and anti-spyware software.

  • Avoid using devices that aren’t on the supported devices list to access HSBCnet Mobile.

  • Don't leave your phone unattended after logging on to HSBCnet Mobile. When you’re finished using HSBCnet, make sure to log off of HSBCnet and close the app.

  • When connecting to a wireless network using your mobile device, use only trusted networks or service providers and enable additional security protection, such as Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPS), if possible.

  • Avoid using a ‘jailbroken’ or ‘rooted’ device or a device with any unauthorised modifications when using HSBCnet Mobile.

  • Avoid sharing your mobile device with others. Enable automatic passcode/PIN lock features on your devices to prevent other people from using it if stolen.

  • To avoid accidentally installing malicious software on your device, make sure that you only download mobile apps from known developers/sources in official app stores (such Google Play/Baidu for Android devices and the App Store for Apple devices).
