Providing correct ID verification documentation for accounts in Germany

For Companies officially registered at the German commercial register

Type of document which needs to be provided by the user:

Copy of valid ID card or copy of valid passport which shows the name, date of birth and the current home address of the authoriser. If the home address is not documented in the ID card or passport, the address shall be added manually to the copy. Please also add the German account number(s) for which the authoriser shall be entitled.

Sending documents via telefax is possible, but not recommended due to the quality constraints of the copies provided.

For all other companies

Type of document:

Copy of valid ID card or copy of valid passport which shows the name, date of birth and the current home address of the authoriser. If the home address is not documented in the ID card or passport, the address shall be added manually to the copy of the same. Please also add the German account number(s) for which the authoriser shall be entitled.

For companies which are not registered at the German commercial register the copy of ID card or passport has to bear a certified true copy confirmation by a trusted party showing a company stamp, name of approver and date of confirmation.

Trusted parties:

  • Any HSBC entity
  • Lawyer or notary
  • Financial auditor, certified public accountant, tax consultant, tax agent
  • German or other European city office
